Pumpkins in the Park

It has been a bountiful harvest for the Entrepreneurial Center for Horticultural (ECH) at Dakota College at Bottineau (DCB). Optimistic planning started spring 2020 to plant pumpkins in the campus gardens with hopes of Bottineau Public School students getting to pick a pumpkin after coming on a field trips to learn about food production. Unfortunately, field trips were yet another thing that had to be cancelled due to the pandemic. BUT not all the fun has been cancelled! To provide some social distancing fun for kids in the community, Friday, October 23rd through Friday, October 30th  there will be 250 mini pumpkins hidden all around Forestry Park and in the city planters on Main Street. ECH employees and Leaderjack volunteers will be hiding the mini pumpkins.

This activity is geared to kids 12 and under. The pumpkins are limited to one per child per day and will all bear a DCB Jacks logo. There will be three special silver pumpkins that can be redeemed for a special prize of DCB merchandise and fun Halloween items.  ECH’s overarching goal is to promote community spirit in these tough times by creating an safe event for children in the community.

If your child finds a silver Jacks pumpkin, contact Apryl Mawby at 701-550-1564 to redeem their prize!

I’m a little pumpkin picked ripe from the vine
In need of a home please say you’ll be mine.

They’ve hid me ‘round town it’s hide and seek time.
Oh where shall you look?  Just follow the rhyme.

Some are on Main in flowers and leaves
and Forestry Park hid under the trees.

If a pumpkin is orange, it’s yours to keep.
But if it is silver, a REWARD you will reap!

So good luck to you to explore and roam.
Most important of all, give a pumpkin a home!
