Dakota College at Bottineau broke ground this spring for a new campus dining facility and is excited to announce it is open as of February 23, 2022.

The new dining center replaces an aging facility that was constructed in the 1960s. Dakota College’s new dining center serves as the hub for food services for the entire campus community, serving students living in the college’s three residence halls. Approximately 4,000 square feet, the new dining center is attached to the existing Knudson Student Center. This includes the seating, area, serving and kitchen area, coolers, storage, mechanical and offices.

According to Dr. Jerry Migler, Campus Dean, “The new facility is a great improvement. Although is about the same size as the old facility, the layout is much more efficient and convenient.” One of the major side benefits is the seating area is open all day and not only during serving hours allowing the space to be used for student activities. Because it is attached to the Knudson Student Center, the combined Student Center and Dining Center can hold events that formerly would have been held in the gym. The new combined facility is designed as the main site for residential life activities at Dakota College. Dr. Migler adds, “We believe this new combined space will become a very popular place for students to gather in the evenings and on weekends.”

Some of the existing equipment was relocated as these items were newer and it was more economical to move them than to purchase new. Due to delays in fabrication, a few of the serving counters are temporarily moved to the new dining center. The new counters are scheduled to arrive in April.

Dakota College contracts with Sodexo for the management of its food services and is open to the general public. An open house and ribbon cutting is scheduled for Friday, March 11th from 10:30 am – 1:00 pm. Dining services is open weekdays for breakfast from 7:00 am – 9:00 am, lunch from 11:00 am – 1:00 pm, and dinner from 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm. On Saturday and Sunday, brunch is served from 11:30 am – 1:00 pm and dinner from 5:00 pm – 6:30 pm.  Although the dining center will be closed between meals, the possibility of having extended hours is being explored once the new facility is fully operational.
