With the arrival of 2026, Dakota College at Bottineau students are turning the page and beginning a new chapter, uniting Jack Naton Days with Smokey’s Week. Since 1961, Smokey’s Week has been a proud tradition celebrating Lumberjack spirit. This refreshed, student-centered identity strengthens our connection to today’s campus community and aligns with our continued vision toward student success.

Smokey’s - Jack Nation Days is designed to bring together students, alumni, and the wider community in a shared celebration of Dakota College at Bottineau. This inclusive event honors our Lumberjack Spirit—Forged in the North—and reminds us that We Are All Lumberjacks.

Let the tradition continue. The community can look forward to the annual window painting contest, the Bottineau Public School coloring contest, specials, and deals from local businesses. ‘Lil Smokies’ will be served on campus every day to honor our DCB legacy. Between home basketball games, the Student Senate will lead a charity event for everyone’s enjoyment. And of course, we will continue the tradition of “axing” a King and Queen during the annual coronation ceremony, with our mascot Axel presenting the 2026 ceremonial axes.

So, wear your best flannel all week long, cheer on our Basketball teams to victory, and be proud of your Lumberjack spirit. Formal announcements and schedules will be posted around campus and shared in the local paper soon.
