Dakota College at Bottineau’s Lumberjack Hockey program is proud to celebrate 50 years of hockey history. The inaugural 1974-1975 season introduced Bob Clyne as head coach, concluding with an impressive 11-4-2 record. Success came quickly, as the Lumberjacks made their first National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) appearance in 1976, earning a National Runner-Up title. After a hiatus during the 1978-1979 season, the program returned to national prominence by capturing its first NJCAA National Championship in 1986 under head coach Gary Warren. Over the years, the Lumberjacks built a legacy, earning a total of 10 NJCAA National Championship titles and compiling an all-time record of 770-688-82.

The NJCAA hosted its final men’s hockey national championship in 2017, a season that concluded with another Lumberjack National Championship under head coach Travis Rybchinski. Following the NJCAA’s decision to discontinue national governance of the sport, DCB transitioned its hockey program to the American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA).

Since 1974, more than 1000 student-athletes have proudly worn the Lumberjack jersey. To honor this legacy, the program will host a two-day reunion celebrating former players, coaches, staff, faculty, and fans.

The celebration begins on June 12 with a dinner and stories night at the Cobblestone Inn, Bottineau. All past and present members of the Lumberjack hockey community are invited to share memories, reconnect, and honor the program’s legacy. Head Coach Travis Rybchinski shares, “We are excited to celebrate the great tradition of Lumberjack Hockey. This event is a great way to bring our hockey family and community together while celebrating the rich history of Lumberjack Hockey,” We’re excited to see alumni and supporters come back to Bottineau and reconnect with the program and teammates.” Festivities will continue on June 13 at the Bottineau Country Club with a four-person scramble golf event.

The Lumberjacks’ storied history will be proudly honored throughout the celebration. Event details and registration information can be found on the Bottineau Lumberjacks 50th Reunion Weekend Facebook page or at www.dakotacollege.edu/hockey.
