In recognition of National Distance Learning Week (NDLW), Dakota College at Bottineau (DCB) is highlighting the many ways students can pursue their education from a distance.

DCB offers approximately 120 courses online, along with a variety of online programs, including Administrative Office Professional, Medical Assistant, Forestry, Paraprofessional Educator and Small Business Management.

Distance education offers several benefits for students, including:

  • Greater flexibility to balance coursework with work, family and other responsibilities
  • Reduced travel time and costs
  • Access to college courses and programs without relocating
  • Opportunities for high school students to get a head start on college through dual credit

High school students can take dual credit courses online or through the Interactive Video Network (IVN) at their school, earning both high school and college credit for the same course.

DCB’s Leading to Education and Advanced Preparation (LEAP) program gives high school students the opportunity to earn a 24-credit general education certificate alongside their high school diploma. Students can complete the certificate by taking two DCB courses each semester during their junior and senior years, helping them get a head start on college while saving time and money. Since its launch in fall 2017, more than 100 students have completed the program.
