Bottineau American Legion Post 42, CDR Heather Thompson and Harley Getzlaff, present a $1,000.00 check to Mark LaCroix, Dakota College at Bottineau Baseball Coach. Mark states, "We have a great college baseball program because of all the community support and the support of the American Legion."

American Legion nation-wide became involved with baseball within their respective communities after WW II to provide a great experience for kids. The Bottineau community continues to thrive with American Legion Baseball because of Harley Getzlaf, nicknamed Mr. Baseball because of his love for the game. Harley along with past Legion member Lloyd Alwalt were extremely instrumental with American Legion Baseball for many years until Lloyd passed away. Today, numerous senior citizens will comment about playing baseball where the present-day Bottineau County Veterans Memorial Hall is now located.

Other American Legion Members present for the check presentation include (left) Jeff Hall, Finance Officer - Legion Member and (right) Art Lund, 1st Vice with over 50 years membership as a Legion member in Post 42.
