Dakota College at Bottineau (DCB) has approved the creation of a new Game Club, proposed by a team of IT staff led by Michael Leader, IT Support. Game Clubs are becoming increasingly popular in North Dakota schools because they promote engagement, inclusivity, skill-building, and community-building while strengthening teamwork, communication, and STEM-related skills.

The DCB Game Club will offer an inclusive, welcoming environment where students and community members can connect through gaming. Planned activities include open-play nights, LAN parties, tournaments, community game nights, and mentorship opportunities between college and high school students. “I wanted to make this club because I’m passionate about gaming, and I know there are students and community members who are too,” said Michael Leader.

The creation of this club is the first step forward in bringing esports into DCB. The club is currently in the planning stages and will begin with a flexible, bring-your-own-device model to keep start-up costs low. DCB will soon share a Qualtrics survey with students to gather interest and feedback to get this Club off to a successful year in fall 2026. Community members interested in supporting its development may contact Michael Leader in the IT Department at Dakota College at Bottineau.
