Dakota College Named Tree Campus USA - 2026
Date Published: 4/9/26

The Arbor Day Foundation has designated Dakota College at Bottineau (DCB) as a Tree Campus Higher Education institution for 2026, celebrating the college's outstanding commitment to environmental sustainability and community engagement for the seventh year.
The Tree Campus Higher Ed program recognizes colleges and universities demonstrating exceptional campus forest management and actively involving staff and students in conservation efforts. DCB achieved this distinguished status by meeting five core standards. These include establishing a dedicated tree advisory committee, developing a comprehensive campus tree-care plan, allocating annual expenditures for campus tree program maintenance, hosting an annual Arbor Day observance, and sponsoring student-led service-learning conservation projects.
Beyond meeting these standards, DCB has distinguished itself through innovative environmental initiatives. The campus actively promotes ecological awareness by hosting a free, family-friendly Earth Day Community Fest that brings the local area together to celebrate and educate. The college also honors local environmental stewards through our Conservationist of the Year program, highlighting the region's critical work of environmental advocates. Through strategic partnerships, including a joint venture with the North Dakota State Forest Services, DCB integrates conservation practices directly into its academic curriculum. Students engage in hands-on learning experiences that extend beyond the classroom, gaining practical skills and a deeper understanding of environmental sustainability.
DCB's dedication to sharing the ecological importance of trees extends throughout its educational programs, creating meaningful opportunities for student involvement and community connection. DCB will be celebrating Earth Day, recognizing its Tree Campus distinction. This celebration will include awarding two deserving individuals the DCB Conservation Award on April 24, 2026.
