Dakota College at Bottineau (DCB) is proud to announce the successful fall regular season of its Clay Target team in the Minnesota College Athletic Conference (MCAC) this week, and it is awaiting the final results from its USA Clay Target College League. The MCAC Clay Target League features 13 other colleges from Minnesota, North Dakota, and Iowa. Teams are divided into smaller divisions based on the number of student-athletes. Dakota College at Bottineau was the champion in the Blue Division, which consisted of 5 teams, and had the 1st and 3rd place male shooters in the regular season of their division, respectively, Kaden Hoffman, Langon, and Brenden Arvidson, St. John, ND.
Clay Target, also called Trap Shooting, is a growing sport at the high school and college levels. It involves students competing both individually and as teams. Student-athletes participate in a six-week competition, during which they shoot at 50 targets at their local shooting range. This results in a weekly score and an overall championship tournament at the end of the year. The MCAC championship tournament took place in Alexandria, MN, on October 21, 2025.
Coach Clemenson shares, “I am proud of our efforts in the regular season this year. The team was hoping for a better showing in the Championship event at Alexandria, but the weather made that difficult, with sustained winds at 40 mph and gusts up to 50, which really made the targets unpredictable. We get a chance of redemption in Illinois and are hoping for better weather conditions there”. DCB’s eight Clay Target athletes participated in two shooting sessions, with each participant receiving 50 targets per session to determine the individual and team score. DCB finished in 11th place out of the 14 teams that attended the championship tournament. DCB will attend the USA Clay Target National Championship, October 31-November 2, in Bunker Hill, Illinois, competing against 50 schools from all over the US.
