What can I expect at Dakota College as a student athlete?

Membership on an athletic team at Dakota College at Bottineau (DCB) is considered a privilege. In order to maintain that membership, student-athletes are expected to abide by all DCB policies, including safety requirements, as well as state and federal laws and CDC guidelines. In keeping with the mission of DCB, we are committed to keeping our student-athletes safe and healthy during this current pandemic by closely monitoring coronavirus developments.

To this end, the Dakota College at Bottineau’s Athletic Department has adopted a standard of procedures for the Covid-19 pandemic to be followed by all student-athletes and members of the athletic department. These policies are in effect for all phases of the sports programs, including, but not limited to daily check-point access, practice and game procedures, training room policies, weight room procedures, as well as travel requirements. Policies may be updated as situations change.

 

SAFETY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Student-athletes must participate in all mandatory educational programs and assist the Athletic Administration by providing information regarding their medical condition as it relates to the current pandemic.

 

COMPLIANCE RESPONSIBILITIES

• Student-athletes must check-in daily at a building access point to have their temperatures taken
• Masks will be expected in certain situations and will be provided by DCB
• Mandatory/voluntary testing will be conducted if necessary
• Necessary quarantine will be enforced

 

BEST PRACTICES & REMINDERS

• The use of hand sanitizer units is encouraged
• Wash hands often
• Refrain from touching your face
• Wear face mask when around other people
• Sneeze or cough into a tissue, or the inside of your elbow
• When feeling ill, stay home

 

HEALTH & MEDICAL RESPONSIBILITIES

• If you experience any of the COVID-19 symptoms, inform your coaches immediately
• On-campus student-athletes will be initially placed in a residence hall quarantine room if they test positive for the virus.

 

FALL GAME PROCEDURES

• Fall sports contests at DCB are currently planned to be with spectators; however distancing requirements will be enforced
• All home matches will be video streamed with new streaming technology
• All away Mon-Dak Conference matches will be video streamed on the host school website. • All people in attendance will be expected to observe all CDC social distancing and mask guidelines.
• Water coolers will not be present in the facility – athletes may have their own water bottles for personal use.
• Game balls will be rotated and disinfected periodically.
• No pre-game or post-game handshakes – acknowledge opponents during line-ups.
• Players go from the locker room to the gym, and directly to locker room in any facility used.

 

TRAVEL PROCEDURES

• A traveling team with coaches will check-in with the DCB Trainer or coach to have their temperature checked prior to boarding the bus for any away contest.
• The team will be checked-into the gymnasium at the host site or team representative upon arrival with temperature checks.
• Any person with a temperature of 100.4 or over will have to go back to the bus and remain during the contest. That person will be placed in the rear of the bus away from the other passengers.
• Any pre-game or post-game meals will be pre-ordered boxed lunches.
• Overnight stays will have a maximum of two players to a hotel room.
• Bus will be disinfected after each use.

 

TRAINING ROOM PROCEDURES

• Exposed surfaces will be cleaned with anti-bacterial cleaner at the start/end of each day
• The ice machine has been cleaned & sanitized – ice will be issued by the trainer only
• Taping stations and treatment tables are spaced 6 feet apart
• Water coolers have been removed as well as ice-bath tubs from locker room areas
• Training room is limited to essential personnel only
• Care will be provided on a one-to-one basis – the athlete & athletic trainer

 

ATHLETIC TRAINERS

• Performs hand hygiene before & after treating an athlete
• Wears face mask or possible face shield
• Sanitizes taping & treatment tables after each use
• Provides ice to players as needed

 

ATHLETES

• Expected to perform hand hygiene prior to entering the training room
• Athletes will be expected to wear face masks in the training room
• Only 1 student-athlete allowed in the training room at one time

 

WEIGHT AND CARDIO ROOM PROCEDURES

• All equipment is properly spaced
• Work only in pairs
• Disinfect the equipment before and after use
• Follow posted instructions at the entrance and on the machines or equipment

 

PRACTICE PROCEDURES

• Limit the amount of time athletes are in close proximity.
• Disinfect frequently used items such as practice balls as much as possible
• Athletes may use only their own individual water bottles

 

LAUNDRY PROCEDURES

• All dirty practice/game uniforms will be place in an individual team laundry cart in the laundry room
• Towels will be placed in a separate laundry cart
• Face shield and gloves will be used by the laundry personnel when handling items
• Physical distancing shall be observed when entering/leaving the laundry room

Athletic Schedule for 2020-21 Season

All championship dates are subject to change based on championship facility availability.

In the NJCAA, a scrimmage is athletic competition against any outside team or individual that is not an official contest or practice. Scrimmages must meet the NJCAA scrimmage definition defined in Article VII, Section 2.B and may not include more than two outside opponents

 

NJCAA Court Volleyball

Fall Practice Season

  • Permitted 60 consecutive calendar days for practice and scrimmages within August 15, 2020 - November 15, 2020.
  • Allowed five (5) scrimmage dates in total for the year, with a maximum of two (2) scrimmage dates allowed in the spring. Each scrimmage limited to no more than two outside opponents.

Spring Championship Season

  • Practice will be permitted to begin starting January 11, 2021.
  • Competition will be permitted to begin starting January 29, 2021.
  • Maximum of 21 competition dates.
  • All regular season, region, and district competition completed by April 3, 2021.
  • NJCAA Volleyball Championships held April 15-17, 2021.
 

NJCAA MEN’S & WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

Fall Practice Season

  • Permitted 60 consecutive calendar days for practice and scrimmages within September 15, 2020 - December 15, 2020.
  • Allowed five (5) scrimmage dates in total for the year, with a maximum of two (2) scrimmage dates allowed in the spring. Each scrimmage limited to no more than two outside opponents.

Spring Championship Season

  • Practice will be permitted to begin starting January 11, 2021.
  • Competition will be permitted to begin starting January 22, 2021.
  • Maximum of 22 games.
  • All regular season, region, and district championship competition completed by April 10, 2021.
  • NJCAA Men’s & Women’s Basketball Championships beginning April 19, 2021.
 

NJCAA BASEBALL

Fall Practice Season

  • Permitted 60 consecutive calendar days for practice and scrimmages within September 5, 2020 - November 15, 2020.
  • Maximum of 15 scrimmages (not dates) against outside competition.

Spring Championship Season

  • Practice will be permitted to begin starting January 10, 2021.
  • Competition will be permitted to begin starting January 22, 2021.
  • Maximum of 56 games (not dates) against outside competition.
  • All regular season, region, and district competition completed by May 23, 2021.
  • NJCAA Division III Baseball Word Series held May 29, 2021 - June 2-3, 2021.
  • NJCAA Division I Baseball World Series held May 29, 2021 - June 4/5, 2021.
  • NJCAA Division II Baseball World Series held May 29, 2021 - June 4/5, 2021.
 

NJCAA SOFTBALL

Fall Practice Season

  • Permitted 60 consecutive calendar days for practice and scrimmages within September 5, 2020 - November 15, 2020.
  • Maximum of seven (7) scrimmage dates against outside competition.

Spring Championship Season

  • Practice will be permitted to begin starting January 10, 2021.
  • Competition will be permitted to begin starting January 22, 2021.
  • Maximum of 30 dates against outside competition.
  • All regular season, region, and district competition completed by May 19, 2021.
  • NJCAA Division I Softball Championship held May 25-29, 2021.
  • NJCAA Division II Softball Championship held May 25-29, 2021.
  • NJCAA Division III Softball Championship held May 27-29, 2021.
 

ACHA HOCKEY

ACHA is planning their season to run as normal as of July 20, 2020. Coaches will have their schedules as soon as possible.
