Quarantine & Isolation

Can I get tested on the Dakota College campus?

Dakota College at Bottineau students, employees and community may be tested on campus as scheduled. Watch the COVID-19 Free Testing link for updates

Who needs to isolate?

Students who receive a positive COVID test are required to isolate, meaning that they must not leave their room or home for the time required by the North Dakota Department of Health.

You will be contacted by the North Dakota Department of Health (ND DoH) regarding the length of time you will need to remain isolated. Dakota College cannot make this decision.

The ND DoH will also assign a case worker to determine any persons who will be designated as close contacts. Close contacts will likely have to self-quarantine for a period of time. Dakota College relies on the ND DoH to make determinations of close contacts. However, the College may implement self-quarantine protocols for persons who will very likely be considered close contacts – such as residence hall roommates.

Where do I isolate?

Students can elect to isolate on the DCB campus or at their homes, if they live nearby. You must notify a College housing official if you choose to isolate at home, and provide them with contact information, as well as when you are scheduled to return to campus.

What do I need to do if I isolate on the DCB campus?

Housing staff will assign you to a room in Milligan Hall.

Notify housing officials of the length of time you are required to isolate. (This decision is made by the ND DoH, not the College.)

Notify Larry Brooks in the Academic Affairs office via phone (701-228-5457) or email (Larry.brooks@dakotacollege.edu) that you have been required to isolate so that they can alert your instructors that they will need to provide you with remote access to your classes.

If isolation rooms are being heavily utilized, it is possible that you may be assigned to share a room with another student who is required to be in isolation. However, you will be consulted on such a decision. - As isolation is generally for a short period of time, you should only plan to bring essential items with you (bedding, toiletries, computer, phone, etc.)

You should not leave your room during the isolation period, except for emergencies such as a fire alarm, etc. However, your case worker may allow you to leave your room for a walk, drive, etc. if you are able to assure that you will remain isolated from other people. This decision is made by your case worker at the ND DoH, not the College. - DCB staff will bring meals to your room during your isolation period. You should contact your head resident or other designated contact if you are not getting your meals.

If you experience COVID symptoms, you should contact a health provider.

Who needs to self-quarantine?

Students who are designated as “close contacts” by the North Dakota Department of Health (ND DoH) will need to self-quarantine for the time designated by the ND DoH case worker.

Close contacts should be aware that the time they are designated to self-quarantine will likely be longer than the person who tested positive. This is generally because the person who tested positive became infected at an earlier date. The ND DoH determines isolation and self-quarantine dates. Dakota College does not make these decisions, so it is important to verify these dates with your contact tracer from the ND DoH.

Where do I self-quarantine?

Students can elect to self-quarantine on the DCB campus or at their homes, if they live nearby. You must notify a College housing official if you choose to self-quarantine at home, and provide them with contact information, as well as when you are scheduled to return to campus.

What do I need to do if I self-quarantine on the DCB campus?

Housing staff will either assign you to a room in Milligan Hall, or depending on your specific situation, you may be allowed to self-quarantine in your current room.

Notify housing officials of the length of time you are required to self-quarantine.

Notify Larry Brooks in the Academic Affairs office via phone (701-228-5457) or email (Larry.brooks@dakotacollege.edu) that you have been required to isolate so that they can alert your instructors that they will need to provide you with remote access to your classes.

If self-quarantine rooms are being heavily utilized, it is possible that you may be assigned to share a room with another student who is required to be self-quarantined. However, you will be consulted on such a decision.

As self-quarantine is generally for a short period of time, you should only plan to bring essential items with you (bedding, toiletries, computer, phone, etc.) if you are moved to a self-quarantine room.

You will have limited opportunities to leave your room. You may leave only if you know you can remain away from others. You should not attend any college events, go shopping, or participate in any activities involving multiple people. Essentially, you can do such things as going for a drive or taking a walk or bike ride, but only by yourself.

You should leave your room in the event of an emergency (fire alarm, building evacuation, etc.)

DCB staff will bring meals to your room during your self-quarantine period. You should contact your head resident or other designated contact if you are not getting your meals.

If you experience COVID symptoms, you should contact a health provider.
