SYLLABUS INTRODUCTION TO PHARMACOLOGY – SPRING 2019 2 legal responsibilities of the health care practitioner in administering medications safely and accurately. 4. Identify the actions and appropriate doses of commonly used medications for common diseases and disorders of each body system. 5. Identify drug interactions, side effects, adverse reactions, and contraindications of commonly used medications and appropriate interventions. 6. Interpret medication orders correctly and state the proper procedures for documenting drug administration and for reporting medication errors. 7. Understand the laws governing drug administration and legal implications. Lecture Schedule: Please see course outline for the content schedule Textbook(s): Essentials of Pharmacology for Health Professions (7th edition) by Ruth Woodrow, Bruce J. Colbert & Davide M. Smith. ISBN-13: 978-1-285-07788-8 and workbook. Students are also required to purchase a drug handbook. These are available at DCB bookstore. Please note that students who are enrolled in the nursing program are not required to purchase an additional drug book. Requirements & Policies: 1. Class attendance is mandatory. Class will start promptly on time. If possible, please let the instructor know before class via email if you will be missing a class. 2. Be respectful of other students. This course is offered over classroom/IVN so there are students from multiple classrooms. 3. Personally, complete all assignments, quizzes, and exams 4.
