Fall 2018 Course Syllabi

MUSC 207: History of Rock & Roll Music 6 connections made between the primary source(s) and the themes in the lectures and/or course materials. RAWs will be assessed on meeting basic requirements. PSAs and RAWs should be edited for spelling, syntax, and grammatical errors. All PSAs and RAWs are submitted on Blackboard’s through SafeAssign. After assessment, all PSAs can be rewritten for a new grade. PSA & RAW Due Dates: Analyses are due on the day the source(s) are assigned. In Class Evaluations (ICE) Students are responsible for participating and completing all in-class evaluations. ICE includes, but not limited to, group presentations, political debates, primary and/or secondary analysis, interactive notes, and quizzes. ICE group assignments will be graded individually and as a group. You will be given further instructions on how complete the assignments well before they are due. Analytical Essay You will be responsible for submitting 1 essay should be 5 pages , double-spaced, Times New Roman font, and use Chicago Style for formatting and footnotes. These essays will analyze at least 1 secondary source and 2 primary sources to make an original argument. Essays should be clearly edited for narrative flow, logical structure, evidence-based arguments, spelling, grammar, and syntax. Students are required to submit a prospectus, outline, and rough draft for peer review before the final draft. All essays are submitted on Blackboard’s through SafeAssign. After assessment, essays can be rewritten for a new grade. Alternatives to an essay may be possible with prior approval from the professor. Essay alternatives include, but not limited to, amicus brief, art project, film/video, historical fiction, interpretative dance, museum exhibit, or photography. Essay Due Dates: Essays are due on the Tuesday following the end of the class section. Final Project The final project will be a group presentation during Finals Week. Groups will demonstrate a clear historical argument utilizing both primary and secondary sources. Groups will be responsible for presenting their projects in 15 to 20-minute presentations during the finals week. Each student will be responsible for presenting 3-5 minutes of the overall presentation. The instructor will assign students to groups. Visual Presentations for Project is due Friday December 7 at 6pm Final Project Due Date: TTH 9:30-10:45am December 10 from 12:00-2:00 pm TTH 11:00am-12:15pm December 11 from 12:00-2:00 pm Extra Credit Students may complete up to 5 extra credit assignments with prior approval from the professor. The professor will offer various extra credit opportunities throughout the semester, including public lectures, films, novels, secondary sources, primary sources, etc. Each paper should be 1½ to 2 pages, double-spaced, Times New Roman font, and use Chicago Style for formatting and footnotes. You will be assessed for the connections made between the primary source(s) and the themes in the lectures and course materials. The paper should be edited for spelling, syntax, and grammatical errors.
