Beginning in the late 1950’s the course examines major artists, technological innovations, events and cross cultural interactions that shape American popular music. Course Objectives: By the end of this course students will be able to explain in their own words the social conditions that developed distinct genres throughout the 20 th century. Students will identify musical trends and artistic personalities in a chronological and thematic progression. In doing so, students will acquire and employ a working vocabulary of technical terms and musical trends that associate with a specific genre of music.
