Composition 110/120 Syllabus 2019-20 Leah Johnson leah.johnson@rugbyschools.org Rugby HIgh School and Dakota College at Bottineau Course Description: ​ This course is a college dual credit class designed to introduce students to collegiate writing and reading strategies. Students will complete several pieces of writing in various modes while practicing critical thinking; engaging in rigorous reading assignments and classroom discussions; and using standard English conventions. Students who plan to pursue degrees outside of the NDUS are strongly encouraged to check the transferability of these credits. Grading Policy: Grades will be weighted in four categories: ● Major assessments (papers, essays, projects, presentations) (40%) ● Tests (30%) ● Quizzes (15%) ● Membean (15%) Students will write three papers during first semester and five during second semester. Tests and quizzes may or may not be announced. Membean assessments will be every two weeks and will be included in the Membean grade. Projects often include working with a partner on a presentation, visual creation, or something similar. Any student who is caught plagiarizing, cheating in or out of class, or using unapproved outside sources will be given a “U” and a zero until the issue is resolved. Parents may be informed at my discretion. Late work will NOT be accepted and given credit during the last week of the quarter and/or semester, including the college semester.
