The one-year Medical Transcription major prepares students for careers transcribing medical reports from health care providers. Instructional components include keyboarding, medical terminology, anatomy, grammar, medical disorders, pharmacology, and AAMT rules of style. Students who successfully complete the program will have the necessary skills to sit for the RMT exam.
Prerequisite skills: Participants should be proficient in grammar, punctuation, and spelling and be able to type at least 50 corrected words per minute. Check your typing rate: www.typingtest.com.
Curriculum: The program can be completed in one year by following the schedule outlined in the Sequence of Study. Courses titles are linked to pages providing additional information about the courses such as prerequisites, course objectives, semesters offered, etc.

Instructional Materials
The books needed for each class are listed on the course information pages found in the curriculum section above. Students need a computer with Internet access, a CD player, and speakers. Additional accessories needed are a headset and foot pedal.
