Bottineau Because

Derek

Hometown: Minot, ND

Major: Information Technology

What made you decide to attend Dakota College at Bottineau?
I didnít want to stray too far from home to work on my degree. That meant either online classes or a local school Ė and I Ďm glad I didnít go strictly online.

How did you first hear about Dakota College at Bottineau?
Iíve known the college was in Bottineau for a long time.

What is your favorite part of learning on a smaller campus?
You get to know people better. I see the same faces in many of my classes.

Why did you decide to attend a two-year college verses a four-year?
At first, I just wanted the degree. So many jobs use no college degree as a filter that it was hard to even get an interview. Then, I found out I can continue on to a four-year degree through Valley City without leaving Bottineau for the third year.

What do you think is the best part about DCB?
I enjoy the interaction you get with instructors because of the smaller class sizes.

What is DCBs “best-kept-secret” that no one ever told you about and you absolutely love?
Motorcycle parking is cheap! Also the IVN classes bring experienced instructors at other statewide campuses to Bottineau.

How do you feel about the small classroom sizes?
It's great. More one-on-one time with instructors.

What is one thing you would like to tell a prospective student about DCB?
Coming in the door, I didn't know about IVN. I also didn't know we had so many out-of-state students residing in Bottineau.

If you attend athletic events, what do you think of the game/crowd?
The crowd is active and lively. They really support our teams.

What do you like best about your program?
The knowledge of the instructors. When they don't know something, they want to learn it too.

What was your favorite on-campus activity?
The talent show was a lot of fun!
